Glasses, Contacts, and the Reality of what Eyewear looks like with Sensitive Skin.

My frames broke, so I’m trying on new ones… but in this current eczema flare, my ears are so sensitive and swollen that even the slightest touch is unbearable. I keep wondering when I’ll actually get to enjoy my new specs.

For many people, choosing glasses or contacts is about style or preference. For me, it depends entirely on how my skin is doing that day. It’s a necessity, not a choice. Moments like this show the invisible side of living with a chronic skin condition, where tiny everyday things suddenly become complicated.

I’ve relied on contacts since childhood, when creams smudged my lenses and dry, flaky skin would fall onto them. Back then, contacts weren’t optional. They were survival.

I’m deeply grateful for them now. They’re giving me clear sight at a time when my skin can’t tolerate anything extra. Holding frustration and gratitude at once is its own kind of strength.
