As I get ready to leave the NEA Eczema Expo and return home, I find it hard to say goodbye to this place. This year’s theme, "Back to School," perfectly captured the spirit of learning, growth, and connection that defines the Expo. The Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort was nothing short of paradise. Each morning, watching the sunrise from my balcony was a serene experience. The backdrop of mountains beyond the golf course, the soothing sounds of water, and the bright sunshine peeking through the towering palm trees created a truly picturesque scene. The expansive pools, complete with a three-level circular slide and a sandy beach that transformed into a pool, were every child’s dream. However, it’s not the natural beauty of Scottsdale that makes it so difficult to leave, nor is it the fact that I’m returning home from what some might call a vacation (because, let’s face it, the jam-packed schedule can be exhausting). It’s hard to leave because this is the most magical place on earth.

The Expo feels like a family vacation. While we’re not necessarily related to one another, we can all relate to each other. The Expo is a safe space where everyone can dress comfortably, scratch when they need to, join conversations mid-session, or step out of one without judgment. It’s a place where everyone feels completely at ease.

The friendships formed here are truly unique—connections that, outside of the Expo, might never have happened. Attendees travel from across the globe to be part of this experience. From Hawaii in the USA to Toronto, Canada, across the pond to the UK, and even as far as Australia, we come from all walks of life, different ages and stages, religions, and traditions. Yet, everyone is welcomed and accepted just as they are. Some have lived with their conditions for decades, while others are newly diagnosed. For some, it’s the attendees themselves who are navigating this journey; for others, it’s a family member eager to learn more, to better understand and support their loved ones.

Meeting old and new friends who have become like family!

You don’t leave the Expo as the same person you were when it began. In just a few short days, it feels as though we’ve graduated to the next grade. The education provided is top-notch, the inspiration is heartwarming, and the support and validation are unparalleled.

And so, as I head back home, I’ll use the time on the flight to reflect on this past year. I’ll recognize how much I’ve learned and grown since the last Expo in Denver and think about my hopes, dreams, goals, and aspirations for the year ahead—until I return to the Expo next year.

A heartfelt thank you to the generous sponsors, and particularly Tower 28, whose support helps provide scholarships for attendees. Your contributions make this incredible experience accessible to so many.
